Mature Students: Applying to Newcastle University

We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 or over at the time of entry).

Mature students apply through UCAS. We will carefully consider your application on its individual merits, taking into account your:

  • qualifications
  • life experience
  • motivation
  • interests
  • employment

We also consider your ability to undertake academic study and to succeed and benefit from your chosen course.

Increasing numbers of people attend university to develop their careers, learn new skills or simply to enjoy a stimulating course of study - and we want to encourage more. Our mature students come from diverse professions. They also include those who have started a degree after raising a family, who left school with no formal qualifications, or see a degree as a rewarding challenge during retirement.

Each year our Student Wellbeing Team organises a Mature Student Orientation event. Here you can get information, advice and guidance on a range of relevant issues. It also provides a great opportunity for you to:

  • find out more about what is like when you start University
  • meet current undergraduate mature students who will share their experiences of student life
  • meet other mature students who will be starting at the same time as you

For pre and post-application enquiries please contact Student Services.

We welcome mature students to our programme; all have great drive and determination to succeed.
