A or AS Levels

Entry grades

Typical entry levels are specified in terms of three grades. Unless otherwise indicated, the grades refer to A level, including double awards.

For entry in 2013, we will not normally require applicants to have achieved more than three single-award A levels, or equivalent, for entry. In the majority of cases, conditional offers will be made on achievement at the end of Year 13 or the final year at college.

Fourth AS level

If you are studying for a fourth AS level, we will take it into account as forming part of your overall application profile. Most admissions tutors are happy for this to be either a contrasting or complementary subject. If admissions tutors wish to recognise the achievement of a fourth AS level within a conditional offer, they may adjust their level of typical offer to make allowances for this additional achievement. If you have not taken four AS levels, however, you will not be disadvantaged in your application.

General Studies

Individual degrees have varying attitudes towards the inclusion of General Studies as a subject at A or AS level. Some exclude General Studies from conditional offers altogether.

Critical Thinking

An A or AS level in Critical Thinking will be considered for entry to most degree programmes in the same way that any other subject at A or AS level is considered.
