This four-year programme allows you to study at an advanced level and is aimed at students who plan to make a career in biomedical sciences.

Through a multidisciplinary approach you will gain knowledge and understanding across the range of subjects in this area. You will acquire knowledge of current major advances in the field and gain the transferable skills required for research or other laboratory-based careers.

A highlight of this programme is the extended final-year project, helping you to develop more advanced laboratory skills.

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Stage 1

Compulsory modules

This Stage is shared by all of our biomedical and biomolecular sciences degrees so you can change from one degree to another after Stage 1 if you wish. See our guide to choosing the right degree for you.

At the end of Stage 1, you may apply to transfer to Medicine or Dentistry (places are available on a competitive basis).

Stage 2

Compulsory modules

We encourage you to undertake a work placement in the summer vacation after Stage 2 to develop work-based skills. We also offer part-time paid employment during term time in laboratories in our research institutes to a number of our second-year students. You may also undertake a year out in industry at the end of Stage 2.

You choose your remaining credits from a range of Master's-level modules offered by the research institutes in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Topics include: drug discovery, cancer, neuroscience, epidemiology, ageing and nanotechnology.
