This degree programme provides you with a thorough understanding of all the main areas of chemistry. It also allows you to choose from a wide selection of modules in advanced chemistry.

Students who are planning for a career in chemical research in industry or academia, or who may wish to study for a higher qualification such as a PhD are encouraged to apply for our Chemistry MChem Honours degree, which is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

We also offer this degree with an industrial training year between Stages 2 and 3, extending your degree to four years.

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Stage 1

Compulsory modules

• CHY1102  Fundamentals of Biological and Medicinal Chemistry
• CHY1201  Elements of Physical Chemistry

• CHY1301  Structural and Inorganic Chemistry

Optional modules

You choose from the following modules:

• BIO1001  Cell Biology 1 and BIO1004  Microbiology 1
  Or:
  PHY1001  Fundamental Physics IA
  Or:
  ACC1000  Introduction to Non-Specialist Accounting and Finance

If you do not have A level Mathematics at grade C or above you need to take the following modules instead:

• SFY0001  Basic Mathematics
• SFY0003  Foundation Mathematics 1
