This degree programme follows the same programme of study as our Chemistry BSc Honours degree, but at Stage 4 you have the opportunity to build on your skills at both experimental and theoretical levels through extended exploration of key chemical concepts and specialised areas.

This degree is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. It is aimed at students who are planning for a career in chemical research in industry or academia, or who may wish to study for a higher qualification such as a PhD.

We also offer this degree with an assessed industrial training year during Stage 3.

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Stage 1

Compulsory modules

• CHY1101 Basic Organic Chemistry
• CHY1102 Fundamentals of Biological and Medicinal Chemistry
• CHY1201 Elements of Physical Chemistry
• CHY1202 Fundamentals of Chemistry
• CHY1301 Structural and Inorganic Chemistry
• CHY1401 Data Handling in Chemistry

Optional modules

You choose from the following modules:

• BIO1001 Cell Biology 1 and BIO1004 Microbiology 1
• Or: PHY1001 Fundamental Physics IA
• Or: ACC1000 Introduction to Non-Specialist Accounting and Finance

If you do not have A level Mathematics at grade C or above you need to take the following modules instead:

• SFY0001 Basic Mathematics
• SFY0003 Foundation Mathematics 1
