This degree deals in depth with those aspects of chemistry that are important to the pharmaceutical industry.

Medicinal chemistry topics include the principles of drug design, enzyme chemistry, toxicology and chemotherapy.

We also offer this degree with an industrial training year between Stages 2 and 3, extending your degree to four years.

Students who are planning for a career in chemical research in industry or academia, or who may wish to study for a higher qualification such as a PhD are encouraged to apply for our Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry MChem Honours, which is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Stage 1

• BIO1001  Cell Biology 1 and BIO1004  Microbiology 1 
• Or: PHY1001  Fundamental Physics IA
• Or: ACC1000  Introduction to Non-Specialist Accounting and Finance

If you do not have A level Mathematics at grade C or above you need to take the following modules instead:

• SFY0001  Basic Mathematics
• SFY0003  Foundation Mathematics 1
