This degree explores a wide selection of modern mathematical ideas and techniques. It is accredited by the Royal Statistical Society.
All of our Mathematics and Statistics students follow a common core of modules for the first two years. This provides a solid foundation on which to build more specialist knowledge through a wide range of optional modules. This also means that it is relatively easy to transfer between a number of degrees within the School, including our four-year MMath/MMathStat degrees.
Your final degree title is determined by the combination of mathematics and statistics modules taken at Stages 2 and 3. This allows you to pursue the topics that interest you the most.
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
M refers to Mathematics modules. S refers to Statistics modules.
Subject to the approval of the Degree Programme Director, you may choose alternative modules to those marked *. This gives you flexibility to spend some of your time studying another ‘minor’ subject, for example, accounting, music, a foreign language or another science, should you wish to.
You take 110 credits of optional modules from a list which currently includes:
The modules listed here are those currently being taught in this academic year and may vary for your year of entry.
