School of Marine Science and Technology

Newcastle is one of the few universities in the UK to offer degree programmes specifically concerned with problems of engineering that are particular to the marine environment, power plants and ships.

Well-equipped diesel engine research laboratories, along with computing and other facilities, ensure that we maintain our leading international position.

This programme offers good career prospects in a variety of interesting jobs within the industry. Our graduates also find that this degree prepares them for work in a wider range of disciplines.

We offer this degree at Master's and Bachelor's level. The preferred route to becoming a fully chartered Engineer, according to the Engineering Council (UK), is through the MEng programme. This is seen as the most direct route to becoming professionally qualified.

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
