This degree is for students who wish to explore human geography alongside the complementary subject of planning. It has been developed to meet the demand for graduates who have strong analytical skills and practical implementation abilities.
The degree concentrates on both understanding and analysing the environmental, social and economic issues that are changing our society, as well as practical policy response and implementation.
With a broad choice of modules available in both planning (delivered by the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape) and geography (delivered by the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology), it gives you the flexibility to tailor the course to your interests, expertise and future career plans.
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
This Stage is accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
Successful completion of this Stage means you may be able to transfer to Stage 2 of the Town Planning BA Honours degree, which can lead more directly to a career as a planner.
The optional modules at Stages 2 and 3 are categorised into themes. This is to help you specialise if you wish. Alternatively, you can choose modules from multiple themes at both Stages. You choose a total of 80 credits.
You choose 80 credits of optional modules, either from one theme or from multiple themes. You can only choose modules from the education and learning theme in either Stage 2 or Stage 3, not both.
The modules listed here are those currently being taught in this academic year and may vary for your year of entry.
“I chose Newcastle because it has an excellent reputation and it is a great city.”
