Our LLB Honours degree provides a thorough understanding of English law and is recognised as a qualifying law degree for the purposes of legal professional qualification. This exempts you from the academic stage of training and enables you to go straight to the Legal Practice Course (for solicitors) or the Bar Professional Training Course (for barristers).
Alongside the three-year LLB, we also offer a four-year Law (European Legal Studies) LLB programme. Joining this programme allows you to spend an intercalating year at one of the Law School’s partner universities in Europe, before returning to Newcastle for your fourth and final year of study.
This means that you will not only graduate with a fully-qualifying degree, but will also be able to draw on the experiences and skills developed during your year abroad. This will open new horizons for you on the job market.
Students who wish to take advantage of this European study opportunity must apply during their first year on the LLB; there is no separate application process via UCAS.
We also offer the subjects required for entry by the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Northern Ireland.
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
You have the opportunity, after Stage 2, to join our European Legal Studies LLB programme and spend a year studying law at one of our European partner universities. This will extend your programme of study to four years.
We currently have links with universities in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain. All of our partner institutions teach in English so you do not need foreign language skills to take advantage of this opportunity.
You take 120 credits of the following optional modules:
Up to a third of your modules at Stage 3 may be from other subjects offered by the University.
The modules listed here are those currently being taught in this academic year and may vary for your year of entry
