The wide range of skills that you learn as a biology student, whilst specialising in ecology and environmental biology, leads to a wide variety of career options.
Some of our recent graduates have been employed by companies involved in research and development, for instance in pest control and horticulture. Others are working in adventure tourism and environmental education. Within the public sector, our students have obtained jobs in environmental management and conservation.
Others have gone on to postgraduate courses in Newcastle or elsewhere offering them specialist training in areas such as wildlife management and environmental consultancy. Some have become school science teachers, or work for the public understanding of science.
About a third of our graduates use their degree as a stepping stone to careers in other employment sectors, ranging from law through outdoor pursuits to the media.

More than three quarters (78.7%) of our graduates who entered employment achieved a graduate level position.
