Biology careers

The wide range of skills that you learn as a biology student, whilst specialising in cellular and molecular biology, leads to a wide variety of career options.

Some of our recent graduates have been employed by biotechnology companies based in the North East, such as Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, SCM Pharma, and Immunodiagnostics Systems. Within the public sector our students have obtained jobs as reproductive and genetic technologists in the NHS.

Some of these positions were achieved after further training via specialist MSc courses in Newcastle or elsewhere. Other students have gone on to train in charity fundraising and biomedical sales. Some have become school science teachers, or work for the public understanding of science.

About a third of our graduates use their degree as a stepping stone to careers in other sectors, ranging from banking and retail management to media production and advertising.

Careers and employability at Newcastle
