Dental Hygiene and Therapy careers

If you successfully pass our Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy, you will be qualified to begin working as a dental hygienist/therapist without the need for any further study.

All dental hygienists/therapists are required to enter their names in the Register of dental hygienists/therapists kept by the Registrar of the General Dental Council. There is a registration fee and an annual retention fee for as long as you wish to continue practising as a hygienist/therapist.

The hygienist/therapist works independently on patients, but in close liaison with the dental surgeon and under their direction.

Teaching of oral hygiene methods and the giving of dietary advice to individuals and groups of all ages forms an important part of the hygienist's/therapist’s work. Dental therapists can also extract deciduous teeth and undertake simple fillings.
