About me

Choosing Newcastle

I chose to study at Newcastle University because of its reputation and after seeing the university at an open day.

Studying at Newcastle

It’s hard to pick a favourite part of my course as I’ve enjoyed it so much, but if I had top pick my favourite aspect has been how interesting the course content particularly in the final years has been. My favourite module has been my Distributed Systems, it was really interesting and I’ve used what I’ve learned in projects since. The teaching quality has been really quite good. There have been some lecturers who’ve really stood out in the department and give really interesting content in their lectures. We were also always provided with plenty of extra material, notes and resources before and after lectures which made being prepared for exams easy.

Recommending Computer Science

I would say that the course content is great, you get a firm basis in basic techniques in your first year and then quickly start building real skills. Newcastle also offer specialisms in the third year where you get to pick your modules which was the part I found most interesting as I was able to pick modules which were most interesting to me.

Recommending Newcastle

Newcastle University offers flexible practical skills development and theoretical knowledge to ensure their students become career-ready graduates. If you want to pursue a fantastic university life and have a bright career future, why wouldn’t you choose Newcastle University?

Future plans

I’m still quite open to what I’d like to do after university. Currently I’m in the process of applying for a PhD at Newcastle so hopefully I’ll be staying for a few years yet. After completing my dissertation, I was really interested in pursuing further research having met some really interesting and inspiring people during it. Studying at Newcastle has given me a great set of skills which I will be able to apply to whatever I do in the future.
