The quality of Newcastle graduates is well recognised by the engineering profession and our students have an excellent record for obtaining rewarding employment at the end of their degree programmes.
In recent years, our graduates have gone on to work for a range of leading companies and authorities such as the British Waterways Board, Sir Robert McAlpine, Balfour Beatty, Arup, Severn Trent Water, The Environment Agency, Capita DBS, Halcrow, British Gas, Northumbrian Water, Mobil Oil, Watson Hawksley and a number of city councils.
Other graduates have joined smaller organisations, which have allowed them to advance their skills developed at the University, in a more close-knit environment.
A few have taken further courses in specialist areas of civil engineering or pursued full-time research leading to higher degrees, and some have offered their skills in voluntary work abroad before returning to paid employment.
Personal transferable skills, such as written and oral communication, teamwork and problem solving, play an important role in the education of an engineer.
Although the majority of our graduates go on to take up careers in civil engineering, an engineering degree will also equip you with the skills for a career in a wide variety of areas such as general management, administration, banking, insurance or teaching.
