Student lecture Economics at Newcastle covers economic theory and policy relating to issues in Britain, Europe and around the world, developing graduates who can address the economic problems facing society today.

This degree equips you with an understanding of economic issues in modern society and of the global and national settings in which economic activities take place.

You will gain the analytical tools, concepts and quantitative techniques necessary to understand modern economics and to be able to identify problems, predict outcomes and evaluate policies.

Our Economics degree has real-world relevance, and we lead on the quantitative skills valued by employers to enhance your employability on graduation.

Teaching and assessment

Modules are taught via lectures and seminars. Assessment is mainly through unseen examinations at the end of each semester (January and June). However, a proportion of your marks will also be based on in-course assessment of essays and projects.

Study abroad

You may apply to spend Stage 2 studying Economics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

This is a fully integrated study abroad experience, taught in English, which counts directly towards your final degree mark. Places are available on a competitive basis.
