Student at an express workstation This degree combines the theoretical study of management topics such as organisational behaviour and human resource management with an understanding of the strategic and operational context of businesses.

We place a strong emphasis on employability, giving you the chance to undertake a range of practical assignments, market research and consultancy, as well as an optional work placement. This balance of theory and practice prepares you for a wide range of careers including consultancy, media, manufacturing, retail, finance and human resources.

Teaching and assessment

Your contact time may involve two lectures per week per module, or one lecture and one seminar per module. Further information can be found on our undergraduate web pages about the approach to teaching and learning at Newcastle University.

Assessment methods include; written examinations, essays, project work, portfolios of practical work, oral presentations, computer-based multiple-choice questions, a dissertation or individual reflective report. Teaching and assessment methods may vary from module to module, more information can be found in our individual module listings.

Professional accreditation

This degree is professionally accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This means that our graduates will benefit from guaranteed membership of the Institute on successful completion of the qualification.

Work placement/opportunities abroad

After Stage 2, you can spend an optional year on a 12-month work placement in a UK or European business, or studying at one of our partner universities abroad. The Business School has a dedicated Placement Officer. We have recently placed students in companies including:

Students who spend the year on a work placement in a UK organisation will be eligible for the award of Business Management with Commercial Placement BA Honours.

Alternatively, if you spend the year studying and/or in a work placement in a European country through the Erasmus scheme you will be eligible for the award of Business Management with European Placement BA Honours.
