This professionally accredited degree combines the study of management topics such as organisational behaviour and human resource management with an understanding of the strategic and operational context of businesses.

We place a strong emphasis on gaining practical, real-world business experience, through the use of case study-led teaching and work placement opportunities with globally recognised companies.

This balance of theory and practice prepares you for a wide range of careers including consultancy, media, manufacturing, retail, finance and human resources.

You will also benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, in our new £45 million Business School Building in the heart of Newcastle's business district.

Teaching and assessment

Your contact time may involve two lectures per week per module, or one lecture and one seminar per module. 

Assessment methods include: written examinations, essays, project work, portfolios of practical work, oral presentations, computer-based multiple-choice questions, a dissertation or individual reflective report. Professional accreditation

This degree is professionally accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This means that our graduates will benefit from guaranteed membership of the Institute on successful completion of the qualification.

Work placement/opportunities abroad

You can choose to spend a year between your second and third years in a work placement in the UK/Europe or studying at one of our partner universities abroad:

• study at one of our partner universities in Europe through the Erasmus exchange scheme. We currently have partners in Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Norway, Spain and Sweden
• spend a year on a work placement in a UK or European business gaining invaluable business experience. You'll receive lots of support from the Business School's dedicated Placement Officer and the University's Careers Service to find a placement that matches your skills and interests
• spend the year doing a combination of working and studying

Alternatively, if you spend the year studying and/or in a work placement in a European country through the Erasmus scheme you will be eligible for the award of Business Management with European Placement BA Honours.
