Downing Plaza, home of Newcastle University Business School Marketing is a diverse and dynamic subject that is central to our lives in the twenty first century. It embraces psychology and consumer behaviour, economics and accountancy, management and innovation, sociology and culture.

Marketing at Newcastle provides you with up-to-date knowledge of the latest marketing trends and the practical skills and techniques you need to make it in this fast-paced industry.

Social media, for example, is a relatively new phenomenon that is now an integral part of many organisations’ marketing strategies. Our degree reflects this evolution, building in study of digital communications at all Stages.

This degree is delivered by Newcastle University Business School. Like all Business School students, you will also receive a solid grounding in business theory and practice, covering topics such as organisational structures, leadership and management.

Professional accreditation

Our Marketing degree is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). This leads to direct entry onto the CIM’s Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

It is also accredited by the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing, conferring eligibility for our graduates to sit the examinations for the Certificate in Direct and Digital Marketing Principles.

  • studying abroad at one of our partner universities in Europe through the Erasmus exchange programme.

Newcastle University Business School has a dedicated placement officer to help you find a suitable work placement. Our current interns are mainly acting as marketing assistants or assistant brand managers, many within large multinational corporations, undertaking projects which include:

  • organising product launches involving celebrities for L'Oreal
  • devising glossy magazine adverts featuring celebrities such as Beyoncé and David and Victoria Beckham for Coty Inc
  • monitoring the launch of the new Juke sports utility vehicle for Nissan
  • managing support for distributors at BMW
  • event management associated with the launch of the Windows Phone at Microsoft UK

Students who complete a placement year will be eligible for the award of BSc Honours in Marketing with Commercial Placement.

Students who spend the year studying in Europe and/or on a European work placement will be eligible for the award of BSc Honours in Marketing with European Placement.

Vocationally oriented

Our approach is very vocationally oriented: we cover the theory in depth and then apply it to the real world either by case studies that we research ourselves or, best of all, through applied student projects.

We have strong links with local, national and international companies to help you gain real-world experience throughout your course.

As well as undertaking a work placement between Stages 2 and 3, you can choose to take part in a team-based Marketing Consultancy Project in third year. This gives you the chance to act as a consultant for a real-life company working on a challenge that they are currently experiencing.

The 24 hour computer clusters on campus are really useful. I use them to do most of my assignments and find it easier to concentrate there than in my room. The library has lots of good resources and journals. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
