Additional University Awards
There are a number of individual subjects and degrees which offer specific financial support or prizes to students:
Academic awards
- The Abbeydale Scholarship - specifically designed for applicants to undergraduate degree courses in the areas of Mathematics.
- Charles Letts Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship - designed to support applicants to undergraduate degree courses, in the area of Marine Science and Technology.
- The Elsie Jeffery Memorial Bursary - provided by one of our alumni for students of Tanfield School, Stanley, Co Durham. It is available for all degrees.
- The James Skillington Memorial Scholarship - awarded each academic year for a UK undergraduate student studying Chemistry.
- The Korbetis Scholarship - awarded each academic year for a third year Greek undergraduate student studying Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
- The Crozier Fund - provides educational bursaries for women from Tyne and Wear or Northumberland to study science.
Sports scholarships for outstanding athletes
Newcastle offers a range of scholarships to support talented sports men and women, linked to our performance sport strategy. As a student, you may be eligible for one of these scholarships but eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Recruitment Sport Scholarships
Up to 20 scholarships worth £1000 to £1,500 are available to attract talented sportsmen and sportswomen to study at Newcastle University. You must apply for these scholarships before you come to Newcastle. They are available for the first year of study only. - Performance Sport Scholarships
Up to 20 scholarships worth £1000 per year are available to talented sportsmen and sportswomen studying at the University. These scholarships are available for each year of your course. - Talented Athlete Scholarship (TASS) Scheme
Newcastle is an approved sports specific TASS centre. TASS is a government funded programme which aims to support talented athletes combining a formal academic programme with high-performance sport. A TASS award is made on an annual basis and with appropriate students being identified through the relevant National Governing Body.
