Subject Scholarships

A number of subjects and degrees offer financial support or prizes to students. Information on specific eligibility criteria is available from the links below.

All Subjects

Vice Chancellor's International Scholarships - awards of £3,000 for eligible UG and PG international students.

Santander Mobility Awards - a minimum of 10 awards with a maximum value of £1,400 for staff or students who wish to undertake a period of research or study in any country within the Banco Santander network.

Agriculture, Food and Rural Development

School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development – awards of up to £1,000 for first-year undergraduate students.

Biology

School of Biology Excellence Scholarships - awards of up to £1,500 for Home/EU undergraduate students in the School of Biology.

Civil Engineering and Geosciences

Civil Engineering Excellence Scholarships - awards of up to £4,000 plus a start-up welcome pack, including personal protective equipment and key text books. Aimed at new undergraduate entrants on BEng and MEng programmes.

GIS, Surveying and Mapping Excellence Scholarships - awards of £3,000 plus a start-up welcome pack, including personal protective equipment and key text books. Aimed at new undergraduate entrants on BSc programmes.

Earth Science Excellence Scholarships - awards of up to £4,000 plus a start-up welcome pack, including personal protective equipment and key text books. Aimed at new undergraduate entrants on BSc and MEarthSci programmes.

Chemistry

Chemistry Overseas Scholarships - a £2,500 award per year for international students, dependant on grades.

Computer Science

Sevcon Sponsorship - generous student sponsorship scheme including fee waivers and paid work placements for undergraduate Computer Science students.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)

EEE Laptop Initiative - This supports you with learning. We give all new Stage 1 undergraduates a laptop for the duration of their course. The laptop will be pre-loaded with the specialist software and notes used in for study. 

School of EEE Excellence Scholarships provide £2,000 in the first year of study to new Foundation or Stage 1 students who meet their conditional offer.  £1,000 will be awarded each subsequent year of study conditional on achieving not less than 60% average in the previous year.

School of EEE Overseas Scholarships provide fee discounts of £3,000 per year for overseas EEE students who meet specific criteria.

Wilson Campbell Scholarship are awards of £1,000 per year for Home/EU EEE students. They are subject to specific criteria.

E3 Academy Sponsorship - this sponsorship scheme is worth up to £5,000 per year for undergraduate EEE students.

Sevcon Sponsorship is a generous student sponsorship scheme including fee waivers and paid work placements for undergraduate EEE students.

Engineering (all disciplines)

UKNEST Science and Engineering Scholarships - there are up to 10 undergraduate scholarships worth £3,000 per year (plus mentoring and work experience opportunities) for students who are interested in future employment in the Naval Defence Sector.

The AMEC Foster Wheeler Natural Resources - Chief Operating Officer’s Bursary - awards of up to £1,000 are available to North East undergraduate engineering students.

CyberFirst Student Bursary - an annual bursary of £4,000 for each year of degree study in a STEM Subject, with work experience opportunities

Humanities and Social Sciences (selected degrees)

Humanities and Social Science Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships - awards of up to £1,000 are available to new UK and EU undergraduate students entering selected degrees.

Marine Science and Technology

School of Marine Science and Technology Scholarships - we have awards of up to £1,500 for Marine Science and Technology undergraduate students.

Mathematics and Statistics

School of Mathematics and Statistics Scholarships and Bursaries - awards of up to £1,250 for UK/EU undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics students.

UKNEST Science and Engineering Scholarships - up to 10 undergraduate scholarships worth £3,000 per year (plus mentoring and work experience opportunities) for students who are interested in future employment in the Naval Defence Sector.

CyberFirst Student Bursary - an annual bursary of £4,000 for each year of degree study in a STEM Subject, with work experience opportunities

Mechanical and Systems Engineering

School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering Scholarships offer awards of up to £4,000 for Home/EU Mechanical and Systems Engineering undergraduate students.

Physics

Physics Excellence Scholarships - awards of up to £2,000 per year for Home/EU Physics students (dependent on grades).

Physics Achievement Scholarships - awards of up to £1,000 per year for Home/EU Physics students (dependent on grades).

Physics Overseas Scholarships - awards of up to £2,000 per year for international / non-EU Physics students (dependent on grades).
