Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA)

The University's School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is home to the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA). NCLA runs a year-round programme of readings and events, featuring world-class writers, dramatists and poets, which are open for everyone to attend.

Recent speakers include:

  • Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE
  • Chloe Daykin, whose debut children’s novel, Fish Boy was chosen as The Bookseller’s Book of The Month
  • Alan Hollinghurst, award-winning novelist, poet, short story writer and translator
  • Kazuo Ishiguro, winner of the Booker Prize and author of best-selling novel Never Let Me Go
  • Alex Preston, an award-winning journalist and writer
