Music and Performances

Even if you’re not studying music at Newcastle, there are plenty of ways to get involved in the music scene on campus and create your student life sound track.

A gig in the Students' Union

Performance opportunities

We encourage you to develop your music and performance skills by joining one of our student music groups. These currently include:

  • jazz big band
  • student orchestra and choir
  • viol consort
  • brass group
  • salsa band
  • Newcastle Bach Choir

If you don't want to commit to joining a particular group there are still plenty of ways for you to showcase your musical skills. Join in our weekly live acoustic sessions in the Students’ Union. Homemade Jam takes place every Tuesday night in the Men's Bar.

You can also enjoy a half price student rate in our professional recording studio in our new Music Studios

Live music on campus

The Students' Union has a reputation for being one of the best live music venues in the city, attracting A list acts and well-known DJs.

For something different, why not try our free weekly lunchtime concert series, LIVE in the King’s Hall, bringing professional musicians to campus from a wide variety of musical genres.

Our music students also stage weekly performances, giving you chance to appreciate the musical talent within the University's International Centre for Music Studies.
