Wellbeing and Disability

Student Services, King's Gate Building

Our Student Wellbeing team offers a wide range of professional and advisory services from their base in King's Gate. This is our dedicated student services building in the heart of campus.

The services Student Wellbeing provide are free and confidential and available to all students to enable them to maximise their potential at Newcastle.

Disabled students

If you have specific requirements relating to a disability, mental health, medical condition, mobility issue or a specific learning difficulty, our Student Wellbeing Service can work with
you to create a tailored package of support. This may involve, for example:

  • one-to-one support from a qualified tutor
  • specific exam arrangements
  • loans of specialist equipment

If you do have a disability, we encourage you to make this known on your UCAS application to help us plan your support with you before you arrive.

For more information about the support available for disabled students download our support for disabled students brochure (PDF: 426KB).

Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA)

UK students can apply for DSA from the government to cover any extra costs they may incur while studying here, such as purchasing special equipment or paying for extra travel costs.

We recommend applying for DSA before you start your course and are happy to provide assistance with the application process.

Counselling and mental health

Professional counsellors and mental health workers are on hand all year round to support students who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.

All help is free and confidential and is designed to help you explore whatever is causing you concern, either through individual sessions or groups.

Healthcare services

We encourage you to register with local medical and dental practices when you arrive. Our Student Wellbeing team can provide information about:
