1. To provide students with a context where they hone introductory skills in (and develop a critical awareness of) multimedia practice.
2. To equip students with the skills necessary to capture video audio and written media content, and to conduct elementary, editorial processes and sequencing.
3. To allow students to demonstrate abilities in effective collaboration and communication.
This module introduces the core practical (and theoretical) elements of multimedia practice.
This module provides opportunity through group workshop tuition sessions for students become familiar with the fundamentals of this multimedia production.
Weekly combined workshop and lectures sessions provide a familiar setting for critical practice.
A subject-related topic is researched within a teamwork structure, and group multimedia production is undertaken to capture and present this topic.

‘Lectures’ convey elementary theory in multimedia (Aims: 1 & 2, Outcomes: 1, 2 & 3) and provide critical context for multimedia practice (Outcomes: 4 & 5).
‘Practicals’ provide the opportunity to connect the theoretical and critical elements with the appropriate practical skills (Aims: 1 & 2, with Outcomes: 4 & 5), as well as providing time in which to hone and develop practical skills (Outcomes: 4, 5).
‘Group Learning’ requires students to negotiate and collaborate their learning and skills in an immersive, collaborative context (Aims: 3), allowing the achievement of technical skills (Outcomes: 3-6) by means of harnessing skills in effective collaboration (Aims: 3, Outcomes: 3 & 6).
‘Skills practice’ will supplement group learning, allowing students a means of enhancing their personal understanding of the skills covered (Outcomes: 4 & 5) at their own pace, in a supported technical environment.
Student ‘Private study’ encourages opportunities for personal reflection (Skill outcomes: 6) and time to consolidate and reflect upon acquired knowledge (Outcomes: 1-6).

The ‘Oral presentation’ facilitates the assessment of students’ theoretical understanding of multimedia production (Aims: 1 & 2; Outcomes: 1 & 2), and also allows students to demonstrate their communication skills (Outcomes: 3).
The ‘Project Work’ enables students to express multimedia production knowledge and skills (Outcomes: 1, 2, 4, 5) within the context of effective group-work (Outcomes: 3 & 6). The successful production of a multimedia project will indicate the degree to which applied skills in multimedia production (Outcomes: 4 & 5) have been met, and allow for the assessment of collaboration skills (Outcomes: 6).
The written ‘Personal Report’ provides an opportunity for students to critically reflect upon their learning (Outcomes: 3) and provides critical evidence of how effectively the aims of the module (Aims: 1-3) are present in the students learning and skills outcomes (Outcomes: 1-6).
