This is a stage II statistics and methods course with an emphasis on analysis of variance and regression analyses. The course also contains practical laboratory sessions where students generate data, analyse it and practise reporting experiments in standard quantitative lab report format. The course is taught with materials tailored to speech language science students.

The lecture sessions introduce essential theories, facts and techniques. The practical sessions work with both given scenarios and new data generated by experiments carried out in class to derive data sets that students have to analyse using computer/statistical skills acquired in year 1 and the lectures of year II. Report writing is further practised through write-ups of the 4 x 2 hour experiment practicals.

The class test assesses skills in identifying from a scenario the data to be sued, the appropriate statistical test to use to answer a given scenario/question and carrying out the analyses using SPSS.
The laboratory sessions and associated write-ups practice hypothesis formation/testing, data generation and gathering, analysis and interpretation of the data and write up of results in standard format.
