Aims

To develop mastery of the basic elements of elementary algebra, geometry and trigonometry. By the completion of the course students will have a thorough understanding of the basics of
elementary algebra, coordinate geometry and trigonometry.

Outline Of Syllabus

Basic algebra: (powers, brackets, fractions, etc.) Polynomials: roots, factorisation, completion of the square, etc. Solution of equations. Co-ordinate Geometry of the straight line and circle. Trigonometry: solution of triangles.

Lectures will be used to provide the formal framework of the module, demonstrated by the use of appropriate examples.

Tutorial classes will increase student understanding and will give students the opportunity to tackle problems in the presence of, and with advice and encouragement from, staff.

The written assignments help students understand the material taught in the lectures.
