Nightlife

The Quayside, Newcastle

Few would argue with Newcastle's reputation as one of the greatest party cities, with a nightlife that has been voted tenth in the world (TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2010).

There is a huge range of venues: traditional pubs and live music venues, upmarket cocktail bars and clubs hosting regular national club nights. Because Newcastle is so compact, you don’t have to venture far for great nightlife. Some of the main areas for nightlife are:

  • Central Station area
  • the Quayside
  • the famous Bigg Market
  • the 'Pink Triangle'
  • The Gate – an indoor cinema/pub/restaurant venue
  • the Haymarket

Areas on the outskirts of the city that are popular with students and locals alike include:

  • Jesmond – a stylish suburb
  • Ouseburn Valley – a string of real ale pubs with a laid-back scene and regular live music
  • Tynemouth – a seaside village 20-minutes’ from the city by Metro, with pubs and modern wine bars

Nightlife in the city also includes venues hosting comedy acts.
