Teaching Excellence

Professor Jimmy Steele leading an undergraduate practical dentistry class

At Newcastle, we view teaching and research as equally important and interconnected and we inspire our staff to find new and exciting ways of communicating their findings through their teaching.

That’s why supporting the continuous professional development of our staff is a priority:

  • our dedicated Staff Development Unit provides year-round staff training
  • all staff receive training in new learning technologies and methods of online assessment to enhance your learning experience

Our management of academic standards and quality of learning opportunities across the University has been given the highest rating available by the UK’s official auditor of higher education, the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

Student feedback

We encourage all our students to provide regular feedback and we use this to inform the development of our teaching in the future.

All of our Schools provide ways for you to take an active role in shaping your learning experience. This includes becoming a course representative at Staff Student Committee meetings, with official recognition of your activities possible through our professional development programme, ncl+.

Newcastle was named our university of the year as long ago as 2000 and it remains one of Britain's finest.
