Choosing Newcastle
I chose Newcastle University because of the reputation of my degree course, nutrition is highly ranked here compared to those at other universities. Newcastle is also a very respected within the UK and this made me want to come here even more. During the open day, I learnt that the university has very good sports representation and this made my decision even clearer.
Studying at Newcastle
I find the degree course really interesting and quite challenging. I enjoy the nutrition and food science the most as I'm able to expand and develop my knowledge from previous education.
Before coming to university, I heard that most of the learning is off your own back, but the lecturers teach you most of the information needed for exams, with only a little bit of self-learning.
Living in Newcastle
Newcastle is a very friendly city, the locals are really nice and will help you if you can't find your way within the town. There are lots of things to do within the city, from shopping in Eldon Square to an art galleries. You'll never be bored here!
Last year I lived within student accommodation at St. Mary's College, which is located in Fenham. I really enjoyed my first year here, it's quite a quiet accommodation, however it is away from the university, which usually results in having to get a bus in every day. This year I live in Jesmond in a house, the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed as we have chosen to live with the people. Jesmond is a great place to live because there are loads of students here and you're always bumping into people you know!
Socialising at Newcastle
I'm a member of NUSSC (Newcastle University Ski & Snowboard Club) race team, we regularly compete in competitions both on dry slope and also abroad at Easter. I also like to play hockey and swim when I have enough time.
