Choosing Newcastle

I decided to come to study in the UK because I love the culture especially football. I loved the fact that diversity and equality is promoted in this country. I was impressed with the reputation of Newcastle in the research field, I also liked the fact that it is a growing university. For example, if there is a breakthrough in science then the following academic year , it will be included in the curriculum of the degree. I also loved the amount of opportunities that there are in Newcastle no matter if it's voluntary , paid part time or career. I also chose Newcastle because of the great football team.

What I did before Newcastle

Before coming to Newcastle, I did my Baccalaureat in Cameroon then took a gap year when I was learning all the skills I needed to survive abroad.

Your course

The course was brilliant, it was a bit hard to begin with because of the various accents in the academic staff but with hard work, it all fell into places. I loved the course of modules and the amount of practicals we had ,my best practical was the step aerobics during the physiology module. The lecturers on my course were amazing! They were always there to help, the support they gave me was fantastic. It's good because they give you specific feedback so you can improve on your work

Social life

From a social side of things, University life is mostly about parties and it can be hard when you don't drink. However, there are loads of societies that you can join to meet other students like yourselves and make good friends. Newcastle is ''I heard'' the European city of Nightlife. So if you love parties, there will be a place for you to be every day of the week. The good thing about this city is no matter what you like doing , you will find it here. There are plenty of websites to find activities to be involved in and it's close to some really nice cities.

Accommodation

My accommodation was private accommodation in Gateshead. I loved it. I was living in the city. The apartment was beautiful and quiet. All the shops were literally outside my window and it was really safe.

Advice for future students

I loved studying in Newcastle and I was quite sad to leave. An important point I want to raise is: ''Make use of every second.” No matter what your personality is, find activities that suit you to keep you busy, always explore the city and its surroundings. Make use of the University departments: The Careers Office, the International Office and so on. Get yourself involve in societies, activities, sports and most importantly: enjoy your time at University because post-university life is something else.
