Your course
I am impressed with the course content that the School has introduced us to. The modules they offer covers broad and different aspects of Psychology from Cognitive Psychology to Social Psychology.
Making friends
It's okay. Some people are more approachable than others so you've just got to find the right people I guess. The international students are very friendly though.
Language support
Although I've come from a country where English is the second language, I was raised in a family where we speak English almost all the time. Also, all schools in my country follow the British educational system so studying here isn't very much different or difficult at all.
Cost of living
I am absolutely amazed and in love, I must say, with the cost of living in Newcastle! I've got friends studying in other parts of the UK who've got to pay double or triple the price for house rent (with rooms much smaller than mine) as well as transport.
Living in Newcastle
Newcastle has both the hustle and bustle of a city and the calm and quiet of a neighbourhood. Having the best of both worlds in one place, you don't have to get so far out of Newcastle just to have a peace of mind - a visit to the beach in South Shields would do just that.
International advice
For students who are undecided whether they prefer the busy city atmosphere or the serenity of a country side, Newcastle feels like its right in the middle of both. For students coming from my country, Newcastle is a place which feels like home. With an abundance of Asian delicacies and Halal food all within reach, Newcastle is the place to be.
Accommodation
I live in Brighton Grove, Fenham. Although it's not the fanciest or nearest area to the University to live in, it is one of the cheapest areas and the rooms are just as nice. If you're looking for Halal or oriental stores, they're just around the corner within walking distance. Getting to the city isn't a hassle at all either as bus stops are available every few blocks and the buses drop you directly at the heart of the city and close to the University.
Spare time
Tuesdays are always movie-days at the Empire Cinema. The Brunei Newcastle Society organizes sports days during the weekend so there's Netball or Badminton. And of course, retail therapy is vital!
Best thing
The University's atmosphere itself is amazing. The personal tutors and lecturers are great and supportive. Every so often, the Student Union hosts exciting events that are not to be missed.
