Why did you choose Newcastle University?
I chose to study at Newcastle University as it has a very good reputation across all subjects and for student life.
What were the best aspects of your degree programme?
The best aspect of the degree was the varied topics and the broad base of modules. The academic facilities at Newcastle are second to none.
What did you enjoy most about life at Newcastle University?
The social life for students is top draw! It is the best – there is something for everyone – work hard, play hard, and get stuck in!
Were you a member of a club or society?
I was a member of the Agric society and I played rugby for their 1st team for 3 years. I captained the Agric’s Rugby in the third year.
I would recommend Newcastle to anyone who is thinking about doing agriculture, or any degree for that matter!
Did you make good friends at the University?
While at Newcastle I met some great people from all walks of life, from all over the country. Although I lived with other friends studying agriculture, I met some very good friends along the way who were on an array of courses from medicine to art. I am and hopefully will be involved in agriculture and live in the countryside all my life so what better opportunity is there to experience living in a city like Newcastle?
What job/course are you currently doing or pursuing?
Since graduating I have done some harvest work both in the UK and Australia. I have also worked for Andersons, the Farm Business Consultancy as a graduate for two years. I am now just starting my third year at Bidwells in the Agri-Business team as an Agri-Business consultant.
Having a degree from Newcastle has definitely helped me get this job; Newcastle is a very well respected university.
What is your favourite memory of your whole student experience?
Too many experiences to remember and too good to put into words. The camaraderie, friendships and contacts I have made not only in Agriculture across all walks of life. I had the best 3 years of my life at Newcastle. If someone wanted a recommendation to study at Newcastle I would say just do it, apply without hesitation.
