Andy Eastabrook Agriculture with honours in Animal Production Science BSc

Course dates: 2009 - 2012

Choosing Newcastle

Newcastle is, in my opinion, the best Agricultural University in the country. From a student perspective, studying a course such as BSc Agriculture, I felt it was important to be at an institution not purely surrounded by fellow agricultural students. I wanted 3 years of living in a city, before I likely return to rural life, as this may be the only chance I get to do so. For employers, a degree from Newcastle is highly valued and sets you up well as a graduate in the career hunt.

Studying at Newcastle

The course covers a wide range of areas, as is typical of the industry which we are studying. Covering fundamentals at stage 1, followed by more applied Agriculture in stage 2, before specialising at stage 3, this all ensures that graduates are equipped with knowledge of all sectors within Agriculture. A good amount of lectures, seminars, practicals and field trips is assurance that value for money is achieved in terms of tuition fees and the like. The course has improved my knowledge of Agriculture hugely, and given me confidence going into a wide range of situations.

Living in Newcastle

The city is vibrant and exciting, and caters for all interests. To truly understand, you have to experience it!

I live in Jesmond, having lived in West Jesmond last year, and Marris House in my first year. All areas have been incredibly student-focused and fun to live. They are very safe areas, and you are always surprisingly close to the university.

Socialising at Newcastle

I play Agric rugby, which involves training at least once a week, and a match on Wednesday afternoons. I also enjoy socialising within the Agric society.
