Omid Chemistry BSc Honours

Studying in the UK

I am from Iran, and thanks to Newcastle’s large and diverse student population, I have felt very comfortable both academically and socially.

Your course

The course content is designed to cover a broad range of areas of Chemistry, with an opportunity to focus on topics that I had prior interests in, such as Nitrogen Fixation and Polymer applications.  I have found the staff and lab demonstrators very friendly, supportive and always approachable when I have academic or personal problems.

The library

The library is another outstanding feature of Newcastle University, with plenty of copies of core textbooks and specific topics available, The Robinson Library is only 5 minutes' walk from the Chemistry department. If you can't find the book you are looking for, they also runs an online reading service, where an online copy of the book will be hired for you for up to two weeks when approved by your tutor.

Living in Newcastle

The campus is very close to St James’ Park, home of the Newcastle United football club, and if you enjoy sports you will be glad to know the University invests a lot in sports and other extra-curricular activities. I joined the Riding Club and Scuba Diving in Fresher’s Week and have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of both, where I met students from other degree disciplines and cultural backgrounds.

Newcastle is a great University, in a great city with amazing people, so if you are aiming to excel in your studies whilst enjoying other aspects of student life, this is the perfect place to be!
