Josh Hayes MChem with Industrial Chemistry

As a first year undergraduate coming towards the end of year exams I can say that coming to Newcastle University to study Chemistry was an excellent decision at least for me personally.

About the course

Having started this year on the BSc course, I have since moved to the MChem course with Industrial training, an option that I feel will be extremely helpful in today’s competitive job market. I have been able to make this jump up thanks to the excellent support from both staff and fellow students.

I have found the peer mentoring scheme a fantastic help in settling in to university, having been guided through by my third year mentor. The course itself offers something to everyone with a broad range of material – it seems that everyone in my lectures enjoys a different aspect of Chemistry! Of course the lab courses are something that any aspiring chemist looks forward to and these have not disappointed, partly due to the brilliant new facilities on offer.

Living in Newcastle

The University combines extremely well with the city of Newcastle - an attitude of work hard, play hard certainly goes down well! Aside from the renowned nightlife, there are plenty of activities from the sporting and culture sides to fill in the gaps.
