I am a second year student studying towards a Chemistry MChem at Newcastle University. The first thing that drew me to Newcastle was the amazing architecture of the Students' Union and Armstrong buildings, as well as the buildings in the city centre. What made the campus even more attractive was the amount of greenery, which surprised me, and I especially liked the look of the quad, which is a paved area with large patches of grass in the middle, surrounded by some of the oldest buildings belonging to the university.
The chemistry building was well laid out and the staff and students were very friendly and helpful. The benefits of being a Chemistry student at Newcastle are huge. In our first week we were given our essential textbooks, a lab coat, lab goggles, a spatula for lab work, a modelling kit and even an alarm clock for free!
I come from Plymouth in the South West so many people find it unusual that someone from so far south has moved to the other end of the country, but I like the change of scenery and it is considerably drier. I also enjoy the fact that it snows here!
