Choosing Newcastle
I chose Newcastle University because it has a campus university style but is just literally 30 seconds from the city centre.
Studying at Newcastle
Geography at Newcastle is very good due to its wide variety. I am especially impressed with the performance of economic geography due to The Centre for Urban and Regional Development (CURDS), which enables us to learn about up to date case studies and concepts due to the internationally recognised research taking place by our lecturers.
I was surprised by how much the course develops transferable skills, which are essential for the job market, whilst also developing a firm knowledge of geographical issues.
At the start of first year everyone gets to go to Langdale to conduct field work. This was a really good experience as we got to put theory into practice, but more importantly it enabled us to meet new people from the course and department.
Newcastle is brilliant, through the day the high street is always bustling with activity and there are a wide range of shops to accommodate everyone’s tastes and at night there is always something going on. The people are very friendly, it's rare not to get into a random conversation with someone in a queue. There are lots of things to do in the city, however it is very compact which means you’re able to walk from a to b to c, very easily and quickly.
Living in Newcastle
I currently live in Jesmond Vale. This area is only a short distance from the University (15 minute walk). What is strange about this area is that it is a very leafy suburb despite being close to the city centre. Equally in Jesmond there are lots of facilities which cater to students, such as bars and shops.
Socialising in Newcastle
In my spare time I usually go to the gym, go out with friends or play Fifa.
Best thing about Newcastle
The best thing about Newcastle University is the location. It’s right in the thick of Newcastle life.
