I chose Newcastle University because it has an excellent reputation, is a research intensive university and it was listed 12th in the country.
Studying at NewcastleThe workload was more than I expected, however the level of lectures and the information available was outstanding. As with all first year courses it took a while to get used to the way things are done but it has been successful so far. I'm looking forward to the next two or three years - if I go on to study a Masters. I must say the facilities I have used are excellent. I've been on some field trips to the ceviots, it was cold but I enjoyed it, and to Tynemouth to look at the geology.
Socialising at NewcastleNewcastle is lively and has a great nightlife, as well as amazing restaurants and other alternatives like the Theatre Royal; there really is something for everyone.
Living in NewcastleI live in Sunderland as I have lived there all my life. It isn't as big as Newcastle but just as lively.
Best thing about NewcastleThe quality of teaching and the fact you are treated as an adult and not spoon-fed builds self reliance and confidence. It really does make the difference to be given responsibility for your own study and I am thriving on it.
Being a mature student at NewcastleThe work-life balance has been a challenge. There have been occasions were I have struggled more than others but I have managed. Being a mature student is the same as working and managing your family life, they is just a little more to think about and plan.
