Course Dates: 2010 - 2013
My Course
The course is interesting. The lectures provide us with the theory and we are then able to put this into practice in the labs which is a really good aspect. The lecturers provide everything we need. We can email them or ask them questions after the lectures and they are happy to help. They provide us with really good information. Extra sessions and revision hours are laid on.
I particularly like the use of the Recap system. I use it a lot and it allows you to revise any lecture, even if you have missed a small point and would like to go back over it.
Choosing Newcastle
It was always my dream from a young age to study in the UK. I chose Newcastle as I didn't want to study in a really big city like Birmingham or London and having spent my foundation year at INTO, it was clear there was a great mix between studies and social life in Newcastle.
I liked the fact that the campus was in the city centre. The reputation of the School and the high employability level of Newcastle's graduates was also a deciding factor.
University Facilities
I like to use the 24 hour computer clusters - it means I can do my assignments at any time of day or night. I can use all the software I need to do my course on there for free. The Robinson Library provides extra information and is a good point to find references for my assignments.
Students' Union
I am President of the Newcastle University Kazakhstan Society. The Society intends to help and support all Kazakhstani students in Newcastle (not only the University) with different issues which can arise during their time in the UK. Also, the Society aims to promote Kazakhstan by organising different events, such as presentations about Kazakhstan (planned for Spring 2012), cultural events with other student societies and various other activities.
Accommodation
I live in Shieldfield with friends with whom I did my foundation year. It is not difficult to find flatmates of a place to live here. Before that, I lived in Richardson Road. It was noisy but fun. It was good to have British flatmates and learn about British culture. I made many connections there.
The City
My favourite thing about the city is Newcastle United Football Club. I have been to St James' Park about ten times since I have been here and I now support the team. I love Newcastle United. Newcastle has a great choice of things to do. You can go to concerts of some of the most famous singers and bands in the world and there are many nightclubs, bars, cafés and restaurants where you can hang out with your friends.
Future Plans
As I am sponsored by the Kazakhstan Government to be here, I have to go back to my home country. I would like to do a Postgraduate course there while finding a way to collaborate with the School of Electrical. Electronic and Computer Engineering in Newcastle.
Advice for Future Students
I would recommend Newcastle University. For students who want to study Science and Engineering, Newcastle is one of the best choices.
