Choosing Newcastle
I chose Newcastle University first of all as its one of the top universities in the country with such a brilliant reputation and offered the most ideal course for me. In addition to this, there was the on-going rejuvenation of various parts of the university, for example the Students' Union and the Business School. Newcastle also has a great careers service and connections with top employers. The university has a great campus feel with a perfect city centre location. I also liked my deluxe en-suite student accommodation.
Studying at Newcastle
I am enjoying my course as it covers so many areas and has therefore stimulated my interest and determination to succeed. It has been both challenging and rewarding offering the opportunity to concentrate on different topic areas. Both the course and the university have surpassed my expectations. Whilst the course is more difficult than I first anticipated, working hard reaps the rewards. Your lecturers, personal tutor and other staff members are friendly, approachable and welcome any queries.
The new Business School is such a fantastic asset for the university. The convenience of the quick print zone, computer clusters as well as areas for group project work in such a contemporary building make a pleasant environment to work in. The lecture theatres have an ideal layout with wide rows and two projection screens.
I have taken part in group project work both in first and second year. They have provided great opportunities to develop relationships with peers, build team work and leadership skills whilst sharing ideas. Group projects also give you the chance to gain good marks outside of your examinations.
Living in Newcastle
I love Newcastle! It offers the best in terms of nightlife, shopping, dining, culture as well as the friendly people.
I am fortunate enough to live in West Jesmond. It is still in walking distance of the university but for those who don't want to walk, there is the metro. With all the bars, restaurants, cafés and shops to hand it is the ideal location for a student. It's unlikely you'll walk down the street without seeing someone you know.
With both busy university and social schedules and no parents to clean up after you, it is easy for your flat to become a bit of mess. Having a rota or arrangement with your flatmates to keep on top of the washing up and other chores makes life so much easier.
Socialising at Newcastle
At university, you will inevitably know so many people so socialising is a major aspect of my spare time. I like eating out, going for drinks as well as enjoying the nights out Newcastle is so famous for. With such a fantastic city centre as mentioned, I also love to shop. On the occasions I stay in, I like to read, catch up with the soaps and sleep!
Best thing about Newcastle
I find it difficult to pinpoint a single best thing. I enjoy every aspect of student life at Newcastle and couldn't recommend it more highly!
