Choosing Newcastle
It gave me the opportunity to focus on politics whilst still continuing my language studies. The combination of a year abroad, international political work experience and an excellent degree will give me the best possible start in the working world.
Studying at Newcastle
I have thoroughly enjoyed studying at Newcastle. The course is well rounded, incorporating both political theory and international relations.
On my year abroad I had the opportunity to work for an international public affairs consultancy in the heart of the EU. I know that the contacts and experience I have gained through this placement will stand me in good stead when applying for graduate schemes. The ERASMUS year is what sets this degree apart. It gives you a chance to truly explore all across Europe as you make friends from different cultures and backgrounds.
Living in Newcastle
Some of the stereotypes are true, you couldn't find more friendly and helpful people than the Geordies, but what most people forget to tell you is that the city itself is lovely and the surrounding countryside of Northumbria is just beautiful.
I live in Sandyford, only 15 minutes walk from the library and University. Nearer and cheaper than Jesmond whilst not being too far from friends both there and in Heaton.
Accommodation tips - Be realistic about what you want and choose accordingly. Different halls are known for different characteristics. Do you want large parties or would you rather something a bit quieter? Know yourself and don't be afraid to go for what you'd prefer; you'll still have a great time and make some friends for life.
Socialising at Newcastle
I spend my spare time doing spontaneous beach trips as study breaks!
Best thing about Newcastle
Being able to study in such an entertaining and friendly city.
