Cindy Marketing BSc

Course Dates: 2009-2012

Your course

The course here is really good. I came onto the course in second year after completing the INTO Business diploma at Newcastle. In my second year, I had a choice of modules to study from all varieties of business and then in third year, the focus is more specific towards Marketing. I particularly enjoy the Culture and Creative Industry Marketing as it is a mixture of theory and then how it applies in the business world. The teachers on the course understand international students and are really willing to help us. I enjoy the seminars as I get to share my opinions with other students. It is also interesting to hear a British students perspective on certain issues.

Choosing Newcastle

My education agent in Indonesia recommended Newcastle as a good location for what I wanted to do. I did some research on the University and the city and was really impressed with the mixture of old and new architecture. I am very happy to have chosen to study here.

University facilities

The 24-hour computer clusters on campus are really useful. I use them to do most of my assignments and find it easier to concentrate there than in my room. The library has lots of good resources and journals. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Students' Union

The new Union is great. I use the MENS bar a lot to hang out and talk with friends. I am a member of the Indonesian and Catholic Societies and this year I joined the Marketing society. Societies are good ways of making friends from both the UK and abroad.

Careers Service

I used the careers service to help with my CV. They were very helpful and gave me excellent advice.

Accommodation

In my second year, I lived in Castle Leazes. I made a lot of British friends which I enjoyed and it is a good place to live. There is also a computer cluster on site and a shop which are both useful for studying and buying last minute goods!

The city

Newcastle is a beautiful city. I like it down by the Quayside with the Millennium and Tyne bridges. The atmosphere both on and off campus is really good. Newcastle University and the city are both very diverse places. In my spare time I go shopping at the fantastic shopping facilities here and go to the local cinemas.

My future

I am still thinking about my future and what to do when I have finished my course but I would like to stay in Newcastle. I love the University, the city and the people are very friendly. If students from Indonesia were thinking of coming to Newcastle, I would tell them to be brave and come here. Studying abroad is much more than the degree. It gives you three years life experience and makes you much better organised and more independent.
