Choosing Newcastle
I chose Newcastle because I had heard a lot of things about it -more than any other place in the UK, and also because of its location. For these reasons, I decided to put it as my first choice on my UCAS form.
My Course
I really like my course, especially because it relates strongly to what I want to do after I graduate. It's providing me with all the essentials I need know to undertake a career, but also a lot more thanks to the choice of modules I get.
Surprises
The fact that I had a choice of modules last year was a surprise as well as the actual list of modules that I had to chose from. I chose Innovation and Technology as I am studying both new and existing innovations and the technology behind them, but also how business is linked with these innovations. Another module that I did not know existed caught my interest, the Social Influence module. It represents exactly what I would like to do, as it has to do with how social media influences the society as a whole, including business.
Facilities
The newly built Business School is amazing. It is situated only ten minutes from where I live and it is in the city centre. It has things like social study rooms, social spaces, a lot of meeting rooms available to book for individual or group work - which I found really useful this semester - and a lot more.
Extra Curricular Activities
I am part of the AIESEC Society through the Students' Union. They send students abroad to internships. I have been to a conference with a few people in the society, and had an amazing experience in the three days that I was there, We were taught so much, and at the same time had so much fun, that I would highly recommend it to anyone to take part!
City
Newcastle is an amazing city. I love the ease by which you can move around, the fact that everything is in one place, the shopping and that there is always something to see. My favourite places are the Quayside area and the Baltic, and The Gate. Most of all, I am surprised by the non-stop nightlife Newcastle has! My Facebook page is filled with student event invitations, every single day. There are numerous clubs and pubs that I can't seem to get bored of. That's something I would never change, and I have never been to place even close to how good the night life is as this.
Accommodation
I currently live in the city centre for the second year in a row. I find it extremely convenient, as I have everything I need right next door: Tesco, The Gate, and the University is just 15 minutes away, not to mention the Business School which is five minutes away.
Accommodation Tips
I would definitely recommend students to stay in University accommodation - it's the ultimate student experience. My first year was in Henderson Hall, probably the oldest and furthest away halls in Newcastle. However, it was an amazing experience, I got to meet so many people every day and I wouldn't change it for anything,
Spare time
I usually spend my spare time shopping, going to Zumba classes or walking around town and the Quayside. Sometimes I even do some give it a go activities - there can be some really good ones.
Best Thing
The best thing about Newcastle is everything. If I were to choose, I would say it would be that I get to meet amazing people every day.
