Alana Contemporary and Popular Music BA Honours

Choosing Newcastle

Not too far from home but far enough so that I felt I was making a big change in life. The course allowed me to enter into Stage 3 of my degree with my previous Higher National Diploma (HND).

Best thing about your course

I have learnt a lot more than what I expected about a lot of different music. I have been introduced to new practices I didn’t know existed. Being involved with different courses within the Music Department has helped me networking and increased my experience as a musician.

Recommending Newcastle

The course allows you to build an individual degree on your own interests and future goals. It has allowed me to think about my music practice in different ways than I would had if I hadn’t chosen this degree.

Describing Newcastle

Newcastle is lively, friendly and exciting. However, spending time exploring the city you will discover many hidden coffee shops and cafes which are great places to chill out or study.

Clubs and societies at Newcastle

The Music Society provides good networking for musicians. Many people have started projects and bands from this Society, and often play on gigs, club nights and even ceilidhs.

Living in Newcastle

I live in Heaton. Going into Thid Year I decided I’d rather live privately than in Halls. I’d recommend this area as it is close to many big supermarkets, newsagents and takeaways and pubs. There are many students mixed with the locals.
