Madventurer, based in Newcastle University Students’ Union, runs a number of overseas volunteer projects in countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Peru, Thailand, Fiji, South Africa and India.
You may be able to build language modules into your degree for academic credit. Many of our degrees allow you to select optional modules in modern langueages.
If not, why not start learning a language in your spare time in our award-winning Language Resource Centre.
The Centre is also home to our tandem learning scheme which partners you with a native speaker in your target language for language learning on an informal exchange basis.
We’re recognised by the Royal Geographical Society as one of the leading UK universities for student expeditions. We’re particularly keen to encourage expeditions organised by students to carry out research outside the UK. The University Expeditions Committee can offer advice and, in some cases, financial assistance to support expeditions judged to be both worthwhile and safe.
