Newcastle is one of the UK’s top tourist destinations and Visit Days are a great opportunity to sample all that the city has to offer.
Each Visit Day we welcome over 9,000 visitors to our campus - as a result, adjacent roads and car parks get very busy. We recommend that, where possible, you use public transport to get to our campus. Visit Days are very popular so please register to attend in advance.
Newcastle is a compact city, and there are several hotels within walking distance of the campus. You can search for accommodation on the NewcastleGateshead tourism information site.
For those travelling by train, the easiest way to reach the University is by taking the Metro light rail system, which stops at the train station. The closest stop to the University is Haymarket Metro Station, which is only two stops from the train station. Please note that you will need change for the Metro and tickets are around £2.70 for a DaySaver return. Alternatively, it is a 15 minute walk to the campus from the train station.
The campus is situated in the heart of Newcastle city centre and has parking for disabled visitors only. If you require a disabled parking bay, please contact the Visit Day team in advance.
If you are travelling by car, we recommend you use one of the city-centre car parks which are within walking distance of the University. You will receive a 20 per cent discount if you use an NCP car park on day of the Visit Day. To do this you need to bring your parking ticket to the Help desk at either the Subject Fair or Information Fair before returning to your car.
NCP car parks are located on:
Newcastle International Airport is only seven miles from the city centre.
'Aesthetically it is a lovely university, in a great city. Everyone is really friendly and the course I would like to do looks very appealing. The day was very inspiring.'
