Castle Leazes Student Village

Your Village

If there’s anything Castle Leazes Student Village doesn’t lack, it’s character. This site has a long-standing reputation of being the place for socialising due to its lively student community and many amazing social spaces.

These social spaces will host a whole range of events, as well as provide areas where you can chat to new friends, do some work in a small group or individually, as well as enjoy a range of things including a gaming area, the Snooker Room, Cinema Room and intimate lounge area.

Your village colour is burgundy, and your ResLife Coordinator is Laura; click here to get to know her and get in touch!

ResLife Coordinator

Hello, my name is Laura Ruddle and I am the ResLife Coordinator for Castle Leazes Student Village. I lead a fantastic team of ResLife Student Assistants, and together we will deliver a programme of support and lively events to enhance your first year at Newcastle University. If you ever want to get in touch, contact me at Laura.Ruddle@newcastle.ac.uk or ResLifeCLSV@newcastle.ac.uk

At Castle Leazes we are lucky enough to have some fantastic social spaces and we will be running all kinds of exciting events in these; we will make the most of the dedicated gaming area and a brand new cinema room! We will also hold weekly drops so you can pop in and see us to chat about everything from settling in to what ResLife events are coming up.

We will also be running some fun larger scale community events throughout the year including a ResFest Welcome Event, a Halloween Ball and Winter Party.

See you all very soon!

ResLife Student Assistants

ResLife Student Assistants (RSAs) will provide mentoring and support, responding to the needs of the students in Castle Leazes Student Village, and provide opportunities for education, personal growth and social interactions.

They are experienced students who have lived in the student accommodation and are able to draw upon their own experiences to help with emotional issues, missing home, academic worries, as well as building personal skills to live independently, guiding you through having challenging discussions with flat mates, or simply to be available in drop-in sessions for when you might need to talk to someone. The RSAs will also be able to signpost you to relevant university Services offering support and guidance; this might include Student Health and Wellbeing, the Students’ Union (NUSU), the Sports Centre, Student Services, the Careers Service, the Library and Writing Development Centre, and relevant external providers and services.

Some RSAs will be living on site, and some will take part in activities whilst being able to share their experiences living in the wider community. All RSAs will be able to give peer support as well as offer ‘top tips’ for you to fully enjoy your time on your course and in your accommodation.

We will be running recruitment days throughout the year, so if you would like to apply to be a ResLife Student Assistant, get in touch at reslife@newcastle.ac.uk.
