University-managed accommodation provides insurance cover through Cover4Students
Your accommodation charges include personal possessions insurance, which means your belongings are insured while they are in your accommodation for the duration of your contract with the University. Cover is provided by Cover4Students, which is a trading style of UK & Ireland Insurance Services.
If you live alone, your items will be insured for up to a maximum of £7,500 per claim. If you live with a partner and/or children, cover is increased to £10,000 in total.
You might need extra cover for things such as bicycles or expensive items, which are excluded from the standard cover. You have to arrange this extra cover separately.
It's your responsibility to make sure you have an appropriate level of cover to protect your belongings.
If you need to make a claim, you should read the information on the cover4insurance website.
When you've read their terms and conditions, fill in their claims form.
If you need to make an insurance claim, you must contact the customer services staff at your residence reception. The insurance company will need validation from the university before they can process your claim.
Claims will be settled on a 'new-for-old' basis. This means that all insured items (other than clothing, linen and rented household goods) will be replaced at today's prices - regardless of their age or condition.
If the claim involves a loss from theft, malicious damage, vandalism or any other criminal activity, you must report the incident to the police within 24 hours of discovery.
