Barker House is self-catered accommodation available for new undergraduate and postgraduate students. Each apartment has a contemporary open plan kitchen/living space. There is a flat screen TV, leather sofas, and a washer/dryer.
There is no on-site parking at Barker House for residents. Parking is via Pay and Display car parks nearby.
There is access to an external bike rack.

Bus companies operate services to Barker House from the city centre. There is a bus stop directly outside the block.

Calls to this number will cost 10 pence a minute from a landline and considerably more from a mobile.
From Newcastle Central Station you can take a bus and taxis are also available.
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles northwest of Newcastle University.
A taxi from the airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £15.
You can also travel by Metro (rapid transport system) to Central Station which will take about 30 minutes. You can then take a bus to Barker House.

Barker House is University-Managed accommodation.
The contract for undergraduate students is a fixed-term period of 42 weeks (23 September 2018 to 14 July 2019). For postgraduate students, it is a fixed-term period of 51 weeks (17 September 2018 to 9 September 2019).
Rents are charged per day, so if your contract differs to the standard dates above (i.e. earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges at the relevant daily rate.
Your rent includes a hot water and heating allowance of £6.00 per person per week (£306.00 per year). You will be liable for any charge above this allowance figure.
WiFi includes standard broadband of 20mb/s. Upgrades are available.
The £500.00 postgraduate application fee payment that is required at the time of completing the application will be split; £200.00 will be used as a security deposit and the remaining £300 will be used towards your summer term rent. Undergraduate students will be asked to pay a £200 deposit at the time of accepting the contract; this will be held and refunded at the end of your tenancy if your rooms is returned in acceptable condition.

Our accommodation is accessible to all and we support students who have particular needs or disabilities
We have one accessible en-suite bedroom with height adjustable furniture suitable for wheelchair users. The en-suite is equipped with pull cord alarm with grab rails.
The communal kitchen is equipped with lowered worktops, sink and hob with front facing controls, a low-level cupboard unit and fire alarm strobe warning light.
The pull cord is linked to the reception and is monitored by the 24-hour monitoring service.
