NCL Professional Network: The Power of Networks

NCL Professional Network offers exclusive opportunities for Newcastle University alumni to engage and learn, supporting both professional and business development

The hot question is: Social and technological networks impact everyone’s life, every day. How can these networks be used as a powerful tool for both businesses and professionals?

Join us for the second event of 2019 in our NCL Professional Network series. Hear from a panel of leading business professionals in the city on how different industries and individuals have used the power of their networks to operate business, develop personal brand, globalise their company, and crowdfund.

Adam Soliman (BSc Accounting and Finance 2009) Founder of Charbrew and Silk Route Spice Company

Through the power of technology, Adam has built solid international business relations which have been pivotal in Adam’s entrepreneurial success. Adam’s Charbrew band is now one of the UK’s fastest-growing speciality tea brands. Adam also utilised his network to successfully crowdfund in excess of £150,000 when Charbrew was in its infancy. Separate to this in 2013 Adam created Silk Route Spice Company which is now a £1.4 million pound turnover business exporting to over 10 countries.

Steven Elliott (BA History 2011) Principal Technology Partner at BT working on Network Convergence

Steven is currently working on BT and EE’s networks. In his role Steven utilises technological networks to improve customer experience through operations and partner management, alongside determining operational policies and guiding investment decisions.

Brigitte West (BSc Biomedical Sciences 2014) Innovation Manager, Asthma UK 

With a passion for using technology as a tool for change, Brigitte utilises digital to address big healthcare challenges. Brigitte has experience working in 

Health Tech in both start-up and charity sectors and in her current role as Innovation Manager at Asthma UK, she leads on innovation strategy, partnerships and heads up Asthma Lab - an innovation consultancy service for digital health start-ups. Whilst studying at Newcastle University, she also founded an award-winning Beauty Tech start-up, Beauty by the Geeks 

Adam Williams (BSc Geography 2000) CEO at Takumi

Adam’s position at Takumi centres on the power of social and technological networks. As an industry leading influencer marketing platform, Takumi utilises the power of Instagram to create exciting and creative large scale campaigns by connecting brands with only premium influencers.
